The Styles

We've been steadily filling our inventory and now have over 400 bars of soap in various stages of curing. At this point we're thinking mid-March should be a perfect time for a shop opening day. To give everyone a heads up on what they can expect to see in our shop, the next handful of blog posts will be dedicated to "Meet the Soaps". You can also check out more pictures and information by visiting the photo albums on our facebook page.

We're making our soaps using four of our own recipes which we've formulated for different uses. These four recipes, dubbed styles, are For Average Skin, Extra Moisturizing, Extra Cleansing, and Shave.

For Average Skin is wrapped in a silver ribbon. This soap has been specially formulated for people whose skin is not too dry and not too oily. Handmade in the cold process method of soap making, this style includes saponified castor, coconut, olive, and palm oils, in our own special recipe. Our testers found this soap to have a light, satisfying lather and rinse clean without any residue. As a base style, For Average Skin can be combined with any of our scents or left unscented (Meet the Soaps - Part 2: The Scents is coming soon.)

Extra Moisturizing is wrapped in a gold ribbon. The recipe for our Extra Moisturizing soap has been crafted for skin that tends towards being dry. Handmade in the cold process method of soap making, this style includes special amounts of saponified castor, coconut, olive, and palm oils, plus a healthy dose of shea butter to leave your skin extra soft. One of our testers said her face was softer and smoother after just a few days use. As a base style, Extra Moisturizing can be combined with any of our scents, or left unscented.

Extra Cleansing comes wrapped in a black colored ribbon, and the soap itself is black, too. The recipe for our Extra Cleansing soap has been crafted for skin that tends towards being oily. Handmade in the cold process method of soap making, this style includes saponified castor, coconut, olive, and palm oils, plus the addition of activated charcoal. Activated charcoal is known for its clarifying and detoxifying qualities. One of our testers told us a few weeks with this soap cleared up acne on her back, without leaving it feeling dry and damaged. As a base style, Extra Cleansing can be combined with any of our scents (except Beatnik Gentleman), or left unscented.

Shave soap comes wrapped in black twisted paper twine. As we've mentioned before on the blog, creating a custom shave soap is the reason we got into soap making. Our shave soap is handmade in the cold process method of soap making, and includes special amounts of saponified castor, coconut, olive, palm, and sweet almond oils, plus shea butter and bentonite clay. This combination lends itself to a thick, lasting lather and a smooth shave, leaving your skin clean and well moisturized. Use our shave soap in place of your old shaving cream. For the best lather, we recommend a high quality shave brush (which you will be able to purchase from us in the near future - but if you're needing one now, check out the links on the left side of the blog page). As a base style, Shave Soap can be combined with any of our scents, except for The Robust Gentleman.

We also have a couple specialty styles including pine tar soap, oatmeal soap, and kitchen soap, but those will get their own blog post coming up soon.

The reason we decided to develop a number of different recipes, rather than work towards that one perfect recipe, is because everyone's skin is different and has different needs. Some need moisturizing, some detoxifying, some exfoliating, so there really can't be one perfect bar of soap for everyone. We hope that by offering a variety, every gentleman can find the soap that works best for him.
