Gentlemanly Arts - Getting Strong

I don't necessarily think all gentleman should be fit, trim, and muscular. Gentleman come in all shapes and sizes. But it's a good idea for all of us to work towards getting a little more fit, right? Most people have a lot of excuses as to why they can't eat better or exercise. With all the products, videos, books, and stuff out there marketing to those looking to get fit, it's no wonder just getting started can be a daunting task.

If you're like me and get easily burned out on "all or nothing" programs or paying for memberships or equipment, check out Hundred Pushups. This program, along with it's companion programs Two Hundred SitUps, Two Hundred Squats, One Fifty Dips, and Twenty-Five PullUps, provides an easy-to-follow plan to get you moving.  Each program begins with a pretest to assess your current fitness level and then tells you which of three difficulty columns to follow. Biweekly re-tests check to make sure you're still at the same difficulty level. This makes it easy to get started no matter what your existing fitness level.

By the end of the program, if you follow along as instructed, the creator of the website says you'll be able to do the number of reps advertised for each exercise. Best of all, there's not a huge time commitment (about 20-30 minutes per week) and no special equipment. This program can be done at home in the living room in front of the TV. For those who are into phone apps, those are also available to help follow along in the program.

Being able to do one hundred pushups may never have been one of my life goals, but it would make for a fun party trick. Besides, in the end the important thing is simply to get moving.
